BURNET - The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of two men who died in Granite Shoals at the same scene, one from a knife wound.

Juan Tovar, 46, a Mexican citizen in the United States on a work visa, died late Sept. 16 at 212 Little Elm St., officers said. Deputies said he was stabbed in the right arm.

Natividad Mancillas, 53, identified as a witness and a Mexican citizen also working in the United States on a work visa, returned to the scene suffering from what deputies described as “unknown medical distress.”

Paramedics already in the area to help Tovar tried to revive Mancillas, but their efforts were unsuccessful, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies are awaiting a toxicology report on Mancillas to determine a cause of death. Both men’s bodies were taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

Meanwhile, as of Thursday morning, Jose Marie Ojeda, 36, remained in the Burnet County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deputies said. His bond information was unavailable Thursday afternoon.

Authorities expect to file additional charges against Ojeda soon, according to deputies.

Granite Shoals officers and deputies responded to the 200 block of Elm Street after receiving a call for a 46-year-old Hispanic male who was unconscious and not breathing, according to police reports.

When they arrived, the report said, officers found Tovar bleeding from the knife wound. He died at the scene.
