GRANITE SHOALS - Authorities remained tight-lipped Monday about a weekend incident where one man apparently perished from violence and a second person died at the same scene from “unknown medical distress.”

A tersely-worded statement from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office indicated that an arrest had been made in the case.

Jose Marie Ojeda, 36, remained Monday night in the Burnet County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Burnet County sheriff’s officials said. No bond had been set and Ojeda is awaiting arraignment.

Investigators may file additional charges against Ojeda, according to the news release.

“As the investigation continues, it is anticipated that additional charges will be filed,” the statement said.

Sheriff’s officials also did not release the victims’ names pending notification of their families. Autopsies for both have been scheduled with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the statement, deputies and Granite Shoals police responded to 212 Little Elm St. in Granite Shoals late Sept. 16 after receiving a call for a 46-year-old Hispanic male who was unconscious and not breathing.

When they arrived, the report said, officers found the victim bleeding from a wound in his right arm. The man died at the scene.

While officers were conducting the initial investigation, sheriff’s officials said a 53-year-old witness returned to the scene suffering from what investigators called “unknown medical distress.”

Paramedics, who had already arrived to treat the first victim, attempted to revive the second victim, but their efforts failed and the victim died.
