HIGHLAND LAKES - Lower Colorado River Authority retail water customers can expect an increase in their bills starting Oct. 1.
“The LCRA board approved a rate for the entire Hill Country region,” said LCRA’s Emlea Chanslor. “It will be a regional rate for all 17 Hill Country systems.”
The increase brings all 17 systems under one rate and covers higher costs to provide services, Chanslor said.
The LCRA began investigating a uniformed rate scale for Hill Country region customers last year. Chanslor said the LCRA staff took the idea to the board, but members voted to hold off raising the rates until more information could be gathered.
After the LCRA collected additional data, the board voted in August to raise the rates for residential customers in the 17 Hill Country systems like the Smithwick Mills Water System.
“The board decided it was time to move forward,” Chanslor said. The increase means the average household will pay $60 per month for water.
The monthly residential customer charge for with a 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch connection will be minimum charge of $49 for the first 2,000 gallons. A 1-inch connection will bring a monthly rate of $105 for the first 2,000 gallons; a 1 1/2-half inch connection rate will be $199 for the first 2,000 gallons; a 2-inch connection rate will be $313 for the first 2,000 gallons; and a 3-inch connection rate will be $614.
If a residential customer exceeds 2,000 gallons, an additional charge kick in. Those charges are $3.50 per 1,000 gallons for 2,001 to 5,000 gallons; $4.50 per 1,000 gallons for 5,001 to 15,000 gallons; $6.50 per 1,000 gallons for 15,001 to 25,000 gallons; and $7.50 per 1,000 gallons for 25,001 gallons and above.
