MARBLE FALLS - A Marble Falls High School world history teacher is free on bond following her arrest Sunday on theft charges.
Betty Jane Eastwood, 56, of Marble Falls was arrested at the Marble Falls H-E-B food store around 4 p.m., according to police records. She was charged with theft (more than $50, less than $500), according to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office.
She was released later Sunday on a $500 personal recognizance bond, according to officials at the Burnet County Jail.
Marble Falls Independent School District Superintendent Ryder Warren said Eastwood has taught at the high school for more than 30 years.
“She’s been a valued member of the faculty for a very long time,” Warren said. “We will continue to give her as much support as possible.”
Warren said he couldn’t comment further on district personnel issues.
The charge is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by 180 days in jail and a fine not to exceed $2,000.
The matter remains under investigation, police said.
