MARBLE FALLS - A Georgetown man is dead after a Thursday afternoon motorcycle accident on U.S. 281 south of Marble Falls.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family members, said Cpl. William Talamantez of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The accident occurred about 3:15 p.m., he added.

According to police, a truck and trailer driven by Terry Miller of Out Back Unlimited was waiting to make a left turn into the outfitter business - which fronts U.S. 281 - when it was hit from behind by the motorcycle.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle into a ditch on the northbound side of the highway. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Edward Cutchin.

No one else was injured, Talamantez said.

DPS investigators closed off two lanes of U.S. 281 for about 90 minutes, slowing northbound traffic to a crawl.

Talamantez said the victim was traveling with two friends after the wreck occurred. The friends were riding a different motorcycle and pulled over when they witnessed the accident, he said.

“The friends said they were coming to Marble Falls to visit another friend,” he said. “’They had come from Georgetown, down to Corpus Christi, then up to Fredericksburg and were on their way back.”

Talamantez said the accident remains under investigation.
